"So what exactly is the 'Amud Hayomi Kollel'?

It all started about three years ago, with a daily class given by Rabbi Gershon Bartman Shlit”a, at the 'Chassidim' synagogue in our community. The Shiur was mainly intended for Ba’alei Batim, and we followes the Oraysa plan.

It was a great success.

Then... one day... one of the participants in the Shiur suddenly proposed a bold idea... to open an 'Amud Hayomi' Kollel for Avreichim!!!

The idea sounded unusually groundbreaking—since when would young men immersed in Torah study learn 'one amud per day'?! However, the idea slowly progressed, grew, and we found ourselves with a Kollel of six young men. At first, it seemed like a lot...

The word spread throughout the community: there's a new Kollel with a unique learning program and a high-quality group of Avreichim...

Within a year, the Kollel doubled in size!

The enthusiastic reactions of the Kollel members taught us that the Kollel was meeting a real need. The need to learn according to a program that progresses steadily over time, with consistent learning during all times. A program that constantly accompanies the students, without interruption. A program that builds and nurtures a true 'Torah scholar' who desires and aims to finish the entire Shas (Talmud) in the future. A program that includes weekly and monthly exams, 'thirty-amud' exams, and tests on every Masechta (tractate)!

Skipping ahead...

Today, the Kollel has over thirty students. The growth of the Kollel is not only in quantity but also in quality. The students are the elite of the community. They are a model and symbol of what a Torah scholar should look like.

In the Kollel, young men who have just married learn side by side with older and more prominent Torah scholars, some of whom are already marrying off children!

The atmosphere in the Kollel is extraordinary. In addition to the 'friendship bond' between the students in their learning, there is also a social aspect. The students feel a sense of belonging to the place and to each other. When a student faces a problem or challenge, he knows that there will be some way to address it within the walls of the Kollel. It’s simply 'The Amud Hayomi Kollel Family.'

Almost every week, another Avreich reaches out wanting to join the Kollel. He too wants to learn the entire Shas (Talmud). And to know it!  Unfortunately, many of these requests cannot be accepted. The Kollel simply cannot keep up with the demand!

If we were to summarize the definition of the Kollel in one sentence, we could say that the 'Amud Hayomi Kollel' in Kiryat Ya'arim is a place of growth!"
